Have you guys seen the first season of The Witcher already? As someone who hasn’t read the books or played the games it took me a while to get into it, but by the end of the season I was already hooked. A big part of the series was filmed in Central and Eastern Europe. On the one hand to honor the fact that the books come from Poland and on the other hand it’s convenient because there are so, so many castles in Europe. One of the castles that the show uses as a filming location I recognised to be the Kreuzenstein Castle near Vienna, which I have been to!Continue reading “One of The Witcher’s locations”
So there I was in Valencia last month, walking around being a tourist when a random Platform 9 3/4 appeared next to a subway station. This is weird, I thought and proceeded to take pictures with it.Continue reading “Harry Potter Exhibition”
Wow, this is a lot darker than I expected it to be, my boyfriend said while we were watching the new mini series Catch-22. I thought it’s going to be a funny comedy like the book.
I told him the book is dark. If you don’t think the book is dark you haven’t really glanced through its humour to see its bloody, depressed, traumatised guts.
It turned out he hasn’t read the whole book and stopped somewhere past the first fifty pages. I shook my head and threw him judging glances as we continued to watch. The series is so short, we watched it over the course of a weekend. And while it is good and funny and brutal, it is very hard to adapt such a book for TV (or whatever streaming sites are calling their shows). It still did a fine job even if it leaned a bit towards the darkness, especially in the second half.
I was about 16 or 17 when I picked up the first Dark Tower book. I was already a fan of Stephen King Now I’ve read all the books and it’s been a couple of years since the last, so there are a lot of thing I have forgotten about the series. Despite that it is still very special to me.
So of course I was excited about the film and I went to see it, despite the negative reviews. Continue reading “The Dark Tower”
I am really ashamed of admitting I watched MTV’s Awkward for all of its 5 seasons… But at least now I can tell you all about it and spare you the pain! It’s a teenage show about a girl, Jenna Hamilton, who in the first season has a kind of a bathroom accident (not like that) and people in her high school think she tried to kill herself and so she becomes an instant celebrity. Enter high school drama. Lots and lots of it. Continue reading “I feel Awkward admitting I watched an MTV Show”
It’s not easy being a Wes Anderson character. You have all these emotions inside, but they never seem to make their way to your face and rarely come out of your mouth. But hey, that’s ok – you can always go on a soul searching journey with your brothers.
I watched The Ghost Writer years ago. It is a slow-paced, moody political thriller, directed by Roman Polanski, starring Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan. To be honest, I didn’t care much for the plot. I hardly remember it. I was however impressed with the atmosphere it creates. And with the fact that it made me really want to go to the seaside during winter.
Hey, remember VH1? It was like MTV but for your parents? Well, apparently, it has changed quite a bit since the last time I have watched it and, like MTV, is producing fictional shows. Oh and we are the target group now.
There are a lot of people who say that a TV show has changed their lives – just ask all the Whovians and Supernatural fangirls for example. And here’s me and the show that’s changed my life. Now, arguably, I would’ve graduated university with whatever topic I had chosen for my master’s thesis, but I chose this one. I chose Community.
