The statues of Budapest

Budapest has a lot of statues. Perhaps its most famous monument is the group of shoes on the bank of the Danube, honouring the Jews who had to take off their shoes before they were shot and fell into the river. But there are many other, far less heartbreaking statues sprinkled around the city. Like this fat policeman, whose belly you should rub for good luck.

Or this lady, playing with her dog.

A lion whose lack of tongue drove his creator to suicide.

This massive angel, surrounded by warriors and kings.

This Anonymous badass.

Shakespeare. Cause why not.

Or this huge statue of liberty, looming over the city.

I can think of at least a couple of other statues that I missed. What is your favourite Budapest statue?

  1. Great post! I didn’t realize that there were so many statues in Budapest! I think one of my favourites is some sort of little fairy/elf (maybe? not sure) next to the banks of the Danube! 😊 Not 100% sure it is in Budapest though 😂
